Mechanical Footswitch or Relay Switching?

Two different approaches, one goal: reliable switching tailored to your playing

Switch à bascule

MECHANICAL FOOTSWITCH

A simple, proven solution widely used in guitar pedals.

🔸 Advantages:

⚠️ Good to know:

  • Produces an audible click when engaged

  • May cause a slight “pop” in the signal
  • Mechanical component subject to wear over time

RELAY SWITCHING

A modern electronically controlled switching system designed for maximum comfort.

🔸 Advantages:

  • Completely silent operation
  • No “pop” in the signal
  • Less prone to wear and tear

⚠️ Good to know:

  • More complex circuitry
  • Slight current draw (≈ 20–30 mA)
  • Best used with a power supply
  • Available only in true bypass

In practice

  • Looking for simplicity and lower cost → Mechanical footswitch
  • Want silent and smooth switching → Relay switching recommended
